Which bike box do I need?
We hire four professional hard-shell cases. Two of them — the Bike Box Alan EasyFit and the ShokBox Pro — take almost every bike and both hire for £11.00/day; between them they cover most riders. The EasyFit is the roomier, more forgiving pack, stocked at every hub, and the ShokBox Pro is the most protective case, with padded bags for the wheels and frame. The Bike Box Alan Premium is the lightweight, lower-cost option for standard road bikes, and the aluminium Buxum Box Stelvio is the premium flight-case option that fits every bike. Here’s how to choose, with the exact dimensions of each.
The ShokBox Pro — our most protective box
Built from batch-moulded HDPE with four layers of 25 mm foam, a dual anti-crush system and recessed TSA combination locks, the ShokBox Pro is the most protective case in our fleet, and it comes with padded bags for both wheels, a padded internal bag and a frame rug. It takes everything from road, gravel and TT bikes to mountain bikes — handlebars up to 55 cm stay on, wider ones come off to pack — plus full carbon disc wheels, and it rolls on multi-directional castor wheels with integrated pull handles. It’s a slightly tighter pack than the EasyFit: depending on your frame, you may need to drop the seat post and take the rear derailleur off. External size 139 × 54 × 97 cm, 15.5 kg with all the padding and bags in. From £11.00/day.
The EasyFit box — the classic Bike Box Alan, at every hub
The EasyFit is the Bike Box Alan we’ve hired from day one, stocked at every hub, and it takes the same range of bikes — road, gravel, TT and mountain. It’s the roomier of our two £11/day boxes and the easier one to pack: with more room inside, you can normally leave the seat post and rear derailleur on. For handlebars up to 50 cm the bars stay on; wider than that they come off and lie alongside the frame. External size 133 × 94 × 50 cm. From £11.00/day.
The Premium box — the lightweight saver
The Premium is the smallest and lightest box we hire, and the cheapest — a good fit for standard road bikes when budget or carrying weight matters most. The trade-off is that it’s a tighter, more precise pack: the handlebars come off the stem and rest over the frame every time. External size 116 × 96 × 36 cm. From £7.10/day.
The Buxum Box Stelvio — the aluminium one, for every bike
New to the fleet, and the premium option by some distance. The Stelvio is a flight case hand-built in Britain from aerospace-grade 6061-T6 aluminium — the same alloy as high-end frames — and buying one costs around £1,300, which is exactly why hiring makes sense. There’s no foam shell to rely on: your frame bolts to the box through its own thru-axles on engineered dummy hubs, held rigid by its strongest points and touching nothing else, with twin anti-crush bars bracing the lid against anything stacked on top. Padded wheel bags take up to 29er wheels, the recessed steel latches carry TSA key locks, and it glides on four skate wheels — reviewers of Buxum’s cases say you can push one along with a finger. It takes every bike — road, gravel and TT through to long-travel trail, enduro and DH machines — with no fork removal, and Buxum reckon on a 10-minute pack, the fastest of any box we hire. New to packing? The EasyFit or the ShokBox Pro
If you’ve never boxed a bike before, the EasyFit is the most forgiving pack: it’s the roomiest of the two, so the seat post and rear derailleur can normally stay on, and for most bikes the handlebars stay on too. The ShokBox Pro is reassuring for first-timers as well — the padded wheel bags, internal bag and shaped foam hold everything in place — though on a tighter frame you may need to drop the seat post and take the derailleur off. The Stelvio is the quickest pack of all — the frame bolts straight in by its axles. The Premium packs smaller and lighter, but it’s a more fiddly job and the bars always come off.

Either the EasyFit or the ShokBox Pro — both take TT and triathlon cockpits and both hire for £11/day. The EasyFit is roomier, which many riders prefer for aero setups; the ShokBox Pro is the most protective and takes bars on up to 55 cm. The Premium doesn’t take TT bikes.
Will a mountain bike fit in a bike box?
Yes — the Buxum Box Stelvio takes any bike, right up to long-travel trail, enduro and DH machines: the frame bolts in by its own axles with no fork removal, wheels and bars off, done. The ShokBox Pro and the EasyFit take mountain bikes too — wheels and pedals off, wider flat bars off the stem, and on some bikes in the EasyFit the front fork comes out.
What is the Buxum Box Stelvio?

What if my handlebars are wider than 50 cm?
On the ShokBox Pro, bars up to 55 cm stay on. Wider than that — on any box — the bars come off the stem and pack alongside the frame; our packing guides cover it step by step.
