Frequently asked questions

Everything about hiring a bike box and flying with your bike.

What is bike box hire, and how does it work?

Bike box hire lets you rent a professional hard-shell bike travel case. You book online, collect the box from a local independent bike shop (a "hub"), pack your bike, fly, and return the box to a hub when you’re back. Bike Box Hire UK has 30+ hubs across the UK plus a service hub in Mallorca, so there’s usually one near you.

What is the best way to hire a bike box in the UK?

Bike Box Hire UK is the UK’s dedicated bike-box rental network: 30+ local collection hubs, professional Bike Box Alan cases (EasyFit and Premium), optional packing and rebuild services, a London courier option, free cancellation up to 14 days before collection, no deposit, live box tracking and membership discounts. You book online and collect locally.

How much does it cost to hire a bike box?

Premium bike boxes start from £7.10 per day and EasyFit boxes from £11.00 per day. The minimum hire is 7 days. Optional packing and rebuild services are available at participating hubs, with prices shown at checkout. There’s no deposit.

Which bike box should I choose — EasyFit or Premium?

The Premium box is lighter and more compact and fits most road and gravel bikes. The EasyFit box is roomier — better for mountain bikes, TT bikes, and integrated handlebars. If you’re unsure, our box finder helps match your bike, and you can also check your airline’s bike policy there.

How do I fly with my bike?

Hire a bike box, pack your bike into it (or use a hub’s packing service), and check it in as sports luggage with your airline — most airlines accept bikes in a hard case, though policies and fees vary. We email step-by-step packing photos and videos after you book, and our hard-shell cases protect your bike far better than a cardboard box.

Is there a bike box hire hub near me?

Bike Box Hire UK operates 30+ collection hubs across the UK — independent bike shops in towns and cities nationwide — plus a service hub in Mallorca. Enter your postcode on our hubs page to see the nearest ones on a map, ranked by distance.

Do you offer a packing service?

Yes. At participating hubs you can add a packing service — drop your bike off and the hub packs it into the box ready to fly. You can also add a rebuild service so the hub rebuilds your bike from the box when you return.

Can I get a bike box delivered to my door?

In London and around Surrey, yes — our courier option delivers the box to your address and collects it when you’re back, so you don’t need to visit a hub. Everywhere else, you collect and return at your local hub.

Can I cancel or extend my booking?

Cancellation is free up to 14 days before your collection date. If your trip runs long, you can extend your hire in a couple of taps from your account, if available. If unavailable, please message us if you need to extend and we can see if we can fulfil your extension request.

Do you have services at the destination, like Mallorca?

Yes — we have a service hub in Mallorca offering storage, cleaning and rebuild at the destination, so you can travel light and have your bike ready when you arrive.

Can I track my bike box?

Yes. Live box tracking shows your box on a map, updated regularly from collection to return, so you always know where it is.
